Ingrained by Bobby Mills is a collection of beautifully hand-crafted pieces of sculptural furniture, exclusive to The New Craftmaker.
Bobby Mills is an exceptional maker working with ancient trees to create extraordinary outcomes. Working from his studio in North Devon, Bobby uses locally grown timber, often sourcing windblown or fallen trees whose natural life cycle has come to an end. Acquiring whole trees rather than pre-milled boards, this collection is made from English burr oak, some of which dates from over 400 years ago. Bobby uses traditional making and joinery methods passed down from his father, with mortise and tenon joints along with hand-cut butterfly keys and pins to accent pieces with the rich dark hues of 5,000 year old bog oak. He collaborates with nature as he responds to the fundamental grain structures and character of each piece of wood he works with. He is guided by both the wood and his hand as he reads and explores the centuries of growth allowing the sculptural furniture pieces reveal themselves.
Ingrained comprises a long spindle-backed bench, stick chair, wall piece, two side tables and a stunning dining table which works equally well as a desk. Some pieces are charred and waxed highlighting contours and shape, where others allow the natural honey colour and detail within the wood to speak for itself.
