Ash & Plumb is the creative partnership of Barnaby Ash and Dru Plumb, dedicated to the art of sculptural wooden vessels. Drawing from ancient and classical forms, their work reimagines tradition through a contemporary, raw aesthetic. Based in the South Downs, just outside Brighton, their rural workshop is both a sanctuary and a creative foundation—a space where traditional and modern craftsmanship intersect to honour the natural beauty of wood.
At the heart of Ash & Plumb’s practice is an intimate dialogue between maker and material. They work predominantly with sustainably sourced native hardwoods, often salvaged or locally felled, ensuring that each creation carries a narrative of place and provenance. The process begins with careful selection, responding to the character of the wood—whether it’s the rippling figure of spalted beech or the deep warmth of cherry. As the vessels take shape, they embrace imperfections and natural irregularities, celebrating the wood’s inherent history rather than obscuring it.
