John is a woodworker based on the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales where his deep connection to the natural environment informs his practice. Working exclusively with locally sourced British timber, he embraces the limitations of available materials as a creative challenge, minimising environmental impact through thoughtful sourcing. Rooted in traditional craftsmanship yet guided by a sense of curiosity, his pieces celebrate the raw beauty of wood, uncovering its hidden textures, colours and grain patterns.
PROCESS
John carefully selects locally sourced British timber, embracing the natural irregularities and unique characteristics of each piece. His process begins with peeling back the bark and cutting into the wood to reveal hidden textures, grain patterns, and rich colors. Working with hand tools and traditional techniques, he transforms overlooked or discarded wood into sculptural, functional objects that celebrate materiality and craftsmanship.
