JONO SMART AND EMILY STEPHEN
JONO SMART AND EMILY STEPHEN
Potters Jono Smart and Emily Stephen live and work out of an old farmhouse in the foothills of the Angus Glens in rural Scotland. Their backgrounds span architecture and garden design however over the course of ten years, their practice has transformed into a material-driven exploration of clay. Collections of bowls, plates and cutlery honour the gentleness of the clay, celebrating its character and the connection between humans and the ancient material.
'Small fingertip work' is how Jono describes the crafting of their pottery. The pieces are delicately moulded by finger and with tiny tools on a pottery wheel and then kiln-fired.
