Dylan Bowen

Dylan Bowen creates slip-decorated earthenware that merges traditional craft skills with contemporary expression. Working in evolving series of platters, bowls, and sculptural forms, he explores the rhythm and spontaneity of making—embracing chance, gesture, and the unexpected in each piece. His process-driven approach invites improvisation, allowing the work to reflect the energy of its creation.

PROCESS

Dylan Bowen works instinctively with clay, throwing, cutting, carving, or hand-building each form before applying layers of slip. The slip is poured, dipped, or brushed onto the surface, with marks and gestures added swiftly using slip trailers while the clay remains wet.

While rooted in the traditions of English slipware, Dylan’s work is shaped by a range of contemporary influences. He fires his pieces in an electric kiln, using slips and glazes made from time-honoured recipes.
