An exclusive, tile-clad cabinet in vibrant green, made by award winning ceramicist Matthew Raw for The New Craftsmen. The detail of the cabinet's design is a product of Matthew's love and commitment to the versatility of the tile, with each one individually hand-made and glazed by Matthew to cover and wrap around the surface and interior of the cabinet. Even the sloping handles are handmade and glazed with his signature rich green glaze recipe. Its compact size makes it ideal for storing drinks or a bedside table, but its colour and glinting, glazed surface ensure that it will accent any interior. This product is available in bespoke variations, please enquire for further details.
Welcome Cupboard is inspired by the traditional adorning of interiors and exteriors of Britain's railway stations for 150 years where tiles were utilised for their intrinsic functionality to cover large and irregular surfaces and their ability to be wiped clean in the era of the coal-hungry, steam trains. Stations were also transitory spaces, welcoming people each and everyday, and still are to this day. Drawing on this legacy, Matthew wanted to develop a functional piece entirely clad with tiles that would also intrigue and welcome someone when they arrived home, thus playing with themes of familiarity and nostalgia.
