Sculptural woodwork studio Ash & Plumb present their new solo exhibition Novus Collection: Part II at The New Craftmaker as part of London Craft Week 2025. Running from 10-31 May, the show marks the studio’s most ambitious showcase to date.
An evolution of their debut Novus collection first seen at Collect Open 2024, this latest body of work deepens Ash & Plumb’s exploration of archetypal form, material memory and timelessness. Crafted entirely from unseasoned English oak offcuts from a local Sussex sawmill, each vessel reflects a dialogue between past and present, drawing on the classical language of ancient form whilst maintaining a reverence for the imperfections present within the material.
Rather than replicating historic vessels, Ash & Plumb reimagine them through the lens of contemporary woodcraft. Their work is informed by a fascination with the visual language of form and how that echoes across time and culture — from Greco-Roman and Southeast Asian to British Neolithic and Saxon references — all playfully reinvented through their own practice, offering what they describe as a “sense of unexpected familiarity.”
