Weave

Celebrating British Basketry

Dedicated to British basketry,  Weave explores a material language shaped by field, shore and woodland, tracing how environment informs craft. Grounded in seasonal rhythms and local knowledge, weaving traditions developed from the materials at hand: willow cut from winter floodplains, oak split from managed coppice, and straw gathered after harvest. Across the UK, distinct regional practices emerged, each shaped by available resources and the demands of daily life. Today, makers revisit these vernacular structures with clarity and intent. What emerges is not simply nostalgia, but a living craft grounded in ecology, utility and material understanding.
