Studio Pottery came about as a foil to generic Industrial ceramics, and is principally associated with Bernard Leach and the Arts and Crafts movement of mid-century Britain. Its focus was on a quality of making that had its own visual signature, reflecting the creative endeavour of the potter. Largely conceived of slipware and fluid, expressive glazes; the forms were based on simple, functional designs which chimed with modernist aesthetics, principally connected to east and west philosophical ideas of imperfection in art.
This tradition is the basis of contemporary ceramics today, and one that is celebrated in the collections by The New Craftmaker, that has a passion for the unique and beautiful in contemporary craft today.
Adam Ross and Jono Smart will be form our first collections.
