Pouch On Weathered Gorse Wood is a highly sculptural basket by renowned Irish basket-maker Joe Hogan. This piece is inspired by the poetry of John O'Donoghue and the sublime beauty of Joe's local landscape in Ireland. Hand-woven from home-grown willow and featuring a gnarled gorse handle, the basket celebrates the beauty of natural materials. Working in a remote location affords Joe the ability to connect with the natural world.
The gorse wood which forms the collar of this pouch was gathered on the lake shore beside which Joe Hogan lives on the west coast of Ireland. Exceptional winter flooding had uprooted many gorse bushes and the wood was then weathered by winter storms to give interesting and gnarled patterns. It is woven with Harrison's willow which the Hogans grow on their farm.
